GLASS CLEANING - DO NOT SCRATCH THE GLASS!

#1 GOAL.. "DO NOT SCRATCH THE GLASS" - Glass can be cleaned and maintained by hand washing with non-abrasive, ordinary domestic glass cleaning solutions. Note that tempered and heat strengthened glass is softer and scratches easier than annealed glass. Always rinse surface with clean water thoroughly before attempting to squeegee or sponge or use any type of rag on any surface of the glass.  Do not allow metal parts of the cleaning equipment to touch the glass surface. Always make sure that no abrasive particles are trapped between the glass and the cleaning materials. Do not use harsh chemical or acidic cleaners, abrasives, opaque liquid cleaning solutions (such as Soft Scrub®), steel wool, or razor blades.

INSTALLATION & PRECAUTIONS

1. Install Plumb, Level, Square and Flat. However, function is the highest priority. Shim the frame on operable units so it lines up evenly with all sides of the sash.  Make sure units operate and lock easily before all fasteners are installed and waterproofed.
2. Never force locking. Look for obstructions and when in doubt, please call 530-265-5354.
3. Keep windows and doors closed and locked at all times to compress new weatherstrip and hold units flat and in proper alignment. 
4. Do not allow the interior to get wet.
5. Protect frame and coated glass from saw dust, stone dust, sheetrock dust etc… 
6. Protect from welding or grinding splatter. It can permanently damage the glass. 
7. Protect the finish and glass from abrasion and aggressive substances. i.e. Portland cement, solvents, stucco etc… 
8. Protect units from excessive heat. If plastic is used to cover the openings, allow air movement between the plastic and the units to moderate heat build-up. Films applied directly to glass can cause heat build-up and may fail insulated glass. Applied films will void any glass warranty.
9. Do not run power cords through the openings in direct contact with finished surfaces.
10. Do not climb out or step on window sills.
11. Use only low adhesive tapes to mask off windows and doors and only for short periods of time, especially when in direct sunlight.

CARE & MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Care and Maintenance is an important part of protecting windows and doors both during construction and after installation. Routine inspections and simple maintenance procedures are key to ensuring a long-lasting product. During Construction:. During the construction process, protect the interior and exterior of Jada windows and doors from work in progress, such as painting, masonry dust, drywall mud and dust, power washing, welding, and grinding.) Jada products should be protected from anything that could damage the metal surfaces, weatherstrip, sealants, hardware or glass. To extend the life of the protective clear finish, avoid contact with any acidic foreign substances, such as cleaners, fertilizers, masonry dust and mineralized water runoff from acidic building materials such as metal products, flashing, stucco, and masonry grouts, etc. Also avoid contact from hard water, including landscape sprinklers.

Clean Doors and Windows After Construction & Before Occupancy:. Using a low-pressure water hose, carefully rinse loose dirt and any abrasive construction substances from the metal surfaces, weatherstrip, hardware and glass. Do not dry-wipe dirt or stone dust from these surfaces as scratching will occur. After removing loose dirt and any abrasive construction substances, follow the Metal Surfaces Maintenance & Cleaning instruction and the Glass Cleaning instructions sections below.

Sealants:. If cracks or voids are present, remove the existing sealant and replace with the same sealant. Please contact Jada for information on the proper procedure and sealant for your project. Perimeter sealants (sealant between the window/door frame and the adjacent building material) are not part of the window or door product but should be maintained as well.

Inspection:. Visually inspect your Jada product twice each year:
-           Open and close operational products to ensure all sash move freely
-           Check the products on the interior and exterior for damage or misalignment
-           Check for dirty or worn weatherstripping on operational products
-           Confirm the hardware, such as locks, are working properly
-           Check exposed sealants for cracks and/or voids

Metal Surfaces Cleaning:. Clean all metal components and weatherstripping as needed: Cleaning Supply List:
-           Non-ionic soap (such as Ivory Dish Soap)
-           5 gallon plastic bucket
-           Brushes (soft white wash brush and soft toothbrush)
-           Scotch-Brite™ pad (fine and white in color)
-           Clean towels (lint free; terry cloth type)
-           Rubber gloves
-           Hose (long enough to reach the door or window)
